AN ITV newsreader found themselves in a mortifying blunder after getting Jeremy Hunt’s name VERY wrong live on air.
The Chancellor has been making headlines this week following his Spring Budget, which was revealed on Wednesday.
During ITV News‘ lunchtime bulletin, Nina Hossain spoke to a correspondent about the Budget and its repercussions, before getting the politician’s name wrong.
She said: “Mr C**t” before quickly correcting herself with “Mr Hunt” and moving on.
However, the moment was quickly picked up on by viewers who took to X – formerly Twitter – to discuss it.
One wrote: “Omg, no way did this just happen on the ITV News it’s made my day.”
Another said Nina “looked mortified but carried on without missing a beat, best bit of TV I’ve seen all week! So funny.”
A third tweeted: “had to rewind myself to check I’d heard it right.”
Others said it was a “legendary slip of the tongue” and that they had “literally only just stopped laughing”.
It isn’t the first time Mr Hunt’s name has caused problems for broadcasters on live television.
In 2022, ITV News’ political editor Robert Peston made the same mistake as Nina.
While discussing plans to cut public spending, he said: “That means the hole in the public finances is bigger than it would have been, and Jeremy C**t’s – Hunt’s – cuts will be more painful.”
Sky News’ Sophie Ridge and the BBC‘s Victoria Derbyshire have also fallen foul to the rude slip up.
The Spring Budget has included a 2p cut in National Insurance and a rise in prices for vapes and cigarettes, while the freeze on alcohol duty will continue for another year.
