Journalist admits 22-year-old ‘fits the profile’ of what Spurs are looking for

Dean Jones has said that while he has not specifically heard anything concrete about Tottenham making a move for Jaden Philogene, the journalist admitted that the Hull City starlet does fit the profile of players that the Lilywhites are after.

Philogene has been turning a lot of heads with his performances in the Championship this season after swapping Aston Villa for Hull last summer.

The 22-year-old, who primarily operates on the left wing but is also capable of playing on the other flank, has scored eight times and registered six assists in 21 league appearances this season (Transfermartk).

Tottenham’s interest in the pacy wide-man first came to light last week when TEAMtalk revealed that Ange Postecoglou’s men are one of several top-flight sides looking at the youngster ahead of the summer transfer window.

However, the report revealed one detail which could complicate Spurs’ pursuit, explaining that Villa had a £15m buy-back clause for the winger.

When asked about Spurs’ rumoured interest in Philogene, Jones has now told GiveMeSport: “I haven’t heard that Tottenham are specifically looking at Philogene but, when you consider the type of signings that they are looking at, he does fit the profile that they are looking for in terms of players that are emerging and going to be capable of making a big breakthrough in the Premier League.

“I can believe that he would be on their radar, based on everything else I’ve heard. He is obviously having a pretty big season, and he made a name for himself with the special goal he scored at Rotherham.”

Tottenham are short of homegrown players in their squad and we know that Postecoglou wants to add further reinforcement to the wide areas. It thus does not come as a surprise that the Lilywhites are keeping an eye on Philogene’s progress at the Hull.
