OSBI investigates deputy-involved shooting in Johnston Co.

TISHOMINGO, Okla. (KFOR) - Investigators are looking into a fatal shooting involving Johnston County Sheriff's deputies Sunday night.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff's Office, deputies were notified around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, of a person possibly in Johnston Co. wanted by the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office.

The Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police said that the subject was wanted for violating a Protective Order by making threats to kill his wife and to commit suicide by law enforcement. Johnston Co. deputies were notified of multiple locations the subject may have been, but his vehicle was later located near Hutchins Lane.

Officials say the car was empty and it was determined the subject was picked up by someone unaware of the situation. Deputies found that vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

As deputies spoke with the driver, the subject pulled out a firearm which led to the deputy-involved shooting. Based on the current information, the subject also fired his weapon during the incident.

The driver was taken to safety and deputies began life-saving measures on the subject, who was taken to a nearby hospital where he passed away.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Johnston Co. Sheriff's Office in the investigation. Two deputies have been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
