Micky Hazard has lavished praise on Micky van de Ven, insisting that his partnership with Cristian Romero is one of the best centre-back pairings that Tottenham have ever had.
The centre-back area was a massive issue for Tottenham last season, with the likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez struggling to play with any consistency while Romero was also guilty of making quite a few unforced errors.
That was one of the areas that the club had to address last summer but there was some scepticism about the signing of Van de Ven, who was an unknown quantity to Premier League fans, arriving at the club on the back of one exceptional season in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg.
However, the Dutchman has taken to English football like fish to water and has hardly put a foot wrong since his move to Hotspur Way, having formed an exceptional partnership with Romero, who has also been at his aggressive best.
The 22-year-old is not only extremely composed on the ball and strong in duals but his electric pace has allowed Ange Postecoglou’s men to play a high line without worrying about being caught out by balls over the top.

Following Van de Ven’s showing against Palace, Hazard has labelled him the best centre-back in the Premier League while also insisting that he and Romero are among ‘the greatest’ centre-back pairings Spurs have had.

It is still too early to label this centre-back pairing as one of the greatest as they need to have longevity to enter that debate.
However, there is no doubt that both Romero and Van de Ven are world-class players and they are well on their way to being recognised as the best pairing in the Premier League, if they aren’t already.
