Man Utd star admits Champions League qualification 'not in their hands' after 3-1 derby loss
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes admits the club faces a tough task to qualify for next season’s Champions League competition.
Manchester City came from behind to defeat Man United 3-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.
After the game, Fernandes was asked about the uphill battle for the Red Devils to qualify for the Champions League.
The €70 million-rated star told Sky Sports (via ManUtd.com): “Every time you don’t win a game, it is damage at this club.
“We know what this club demands and we want to win the games we are involved in. We didn’t get the three points today, but there’s still a long way to go.
“We know it is not everything in our hands because other teams have to lose points, but we have to do our job.”
Man United cannot afford to drop any more points
The Red Devils ended up as a losing side for the 11th time in the Premier League this season.
The derby defeat left United in sixth place with 44 points. Aston Villa (55) and Tottenham Hotspur (50) are ahead of them in the race for fourth position.
Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal are in a three-way battle for the English top-flight crown.
They look almost certain to qualify for the Champions League, leaving only fourth spot to be determined.

Fernandes rightly admits that United’s Champions League fortunes are not in their hands anymore. They must try to win every game and hope that Villa and Spurs drop points.
