LAFAYETTE, La (KLFY)-- Louisiana music lovers will soon have a place to learn about all things related to Cajun and Creole music. Acadiana Center for the Arts announced its request for qualifications to turn the historic downtown hardware store into a museum.

With their mission of fostering art and culture, Acadiana Center for the Arts is doing just that with phase one of its two-phase selection process to redevelop the historic Lafayette hardware store into the Louisiana Music Museum.

"We have just issued the request for qualifications for architects and lead firms to redevelop the property."

Built in 1880, the historic Lafayette hardware store is in the process of being turned into a museum that focuses on Louisiana's rich musical history. Next door to ACA, the Louisiana Music Museum will serve as a gateway to Louisiana's musical past, present and anticipated future. Rachel Adams with ACA said it will also boost a dancehall.

"It will be a museum with permanent exhibitions, with rotating exhibitions, as well as a functioning dance hall," Adams said.

Adams said ACA has published the request for qualifications as the first phase of their redevelopment process.

"Once the requests for qualifications have been answered, we will have a pre-bid site tour March 7 and 8," Adams said. "That will be for anyone looking to submit, and that will be a great chance to answer any questions to get some more information about the building itself. The state that it's in."

Adam said bringing the Louisiana Music Museum will not only pay homage to Cajun and Creole culture, but will also enrich Louisiana music lovers.

"The mission of the Louisiana Music Museum is to enrich the world by celebrating the stories of Louisiana's musical legacy through its people, places and culture," she said.
