Oregonians who recently filed their taxes online can expect to receive their returns soon.
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Oregonians who recently filed their taxes online can expect to receive their returns soon.
Oregon Department of Revenue spokesperson Robin Maxey told KOIN 6 News that, as of Monday, state refunds are being issued as quickly as they are processed.
“The department began issuing the first refunds of the 2024 tax season Feb. 12,” Maxey said. “Starting this week, we’re issuing refunds as soon as the returns are processed. We have caught up from the annual refund hold.”
Taxpayers who file their returns electronically can expect the shortest wait times for their returns. On average, taxpayers who e-file and choose to get their refunds by direct deposit receive their money two weeks sooner than those who file paper returns and request paper refund checks.
Most state refunds are issued within two weeks. More complicated returns can take up to 16 weeks before a refund is issued. Oregon taxpayers can check the status of their refund online by using the "Where’s My Refund?" tool.
This year’s highly anticipated kicker tax credit will put $5.61 billion in surplus cash back in Oregonians’ pockets. As of Feb. 26, the Oregon Department of Revenue has received and processed more than 615,000 returns or roughly 28% of the 2.2 million returns the agency expects to receive in 2024. Approximately 480,000 refunds totaling $1 billion have been issued across the state, so far.
