Craig Burley has said that Tottenham Hotspur would not be able to attract Ollie Watkins in the summer as the Lilywhites are not a better team than Aston Villa at the moment.
Richarlison has been in fantastic form since returning from his groin operation back in December and the forward is certainly showing Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou that he is more than good enough to be his long-term number nine.
However, despite this, reports indicate that the Lilywhites are expected to spend a sizable portion of their summer budget to sign a centre forward in the summer.
This was the claim made by Football Insider two weeks ago, with the outlet suggesting that Tottenham want a marquee striker to fill Harry Kane’s shoes, adding that Brentford’s Ivan Toney is one of the names on the club’s radar at the moment.
Burley insisted that one striker who will not be moving to N17 in the summer is Watkins, with the pundit suggesting that a switch to Spurs or Chelsea would be a sideways step for the England international.
The former Celtic midfielder told ESPN FCN: “Where is Ollie Watkins going to go that is better than where he is? I don’t know if he sees it that way (about Arsenal being the right move). Arteta – if it’s not one of those top three, which I don’t think it’s going to be.
“Tottenham? But is that better than where he is?! Chelsea would be more glamorous, but it’s not a better team, so I don’t know where Ollie Watkins is going to go that’s better than what he has at Villa.”

Villa have shown that they have the staying power to remain near the top of the table, having been quite consistent since Unai Emery took over last season. Even if Spurs pip the West Midlands club to fourth place, the Lilywhites might perhaps not be in a position to raid the Villans for their best players in the summer.
