Only about 1 in 20 young voters said Taylor Swift's endorsement might sway their 2024 vote: poll

Politicians and pundits have debated in recent weeks just how much pop star Taylor Swift's endorsement could play in the 2024 presidential election. A recent poll, however, found her endorsement may not be as impactful as some may have thought.

The survey, conducted between February 3 and 14 by The Generation Lab and Axios to 1,073 young adults, found that 4% of respondents — or just under 1-in-20 — said that if Swift endorsed a candidate, they would "consider changing" their presidential vote.

In 2020, about a month before the presidential election, Swift endorsed Democratic now-President Joe Biden over President Donald Trump, citing the need to "fight for the human rights."

"The change we need most is to elect a president who recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included," she said at the time.

The poll also revealed that if Swift calls on young adults to vote, only about 6% said it would change their likelihood of voting. But 6% of tens of millions of adults aged 18 to 34 years old can still have a measurable impact on elections, particularly close ones.

For example, when Swift urged her then-272 million Instagram followers in 2023 to register to vote, the CEO of Vote.org told Business Insider it led to 35,252 new registrations — the largest Voter Registration Day the site's had since 2020.

While Swift has yet to endorse any candidates in the 2024 election, that hasn't stopped conservative talk show hosts and even former presidential candidates from espousing wild conspiracy theories about the artist.

The day of the Super Bowl, weeks after Rolling Stone reported one of Trump's confidants expected the former president to wage a "holy war" against her, Trump railed against Swift on Truth Social, saying she'd be "disloyal to the man who made her so much" if she endorses Biden in the upcoming election.
