On February 22, 2024, a pal also gave an update on how Kate was doing.
Speaking to the Daily Mail the friend said: “Catherine is recovering well.
“She was looking forward to a change of scene and will be able to take it easy in Norfolk while the children let off steam with William.”
Kate was admitted to hospital for planned abdominal surgery on January 17, 2024.
Kensington Palace announced the news but no other details of what the operation was for has been released.
A statement at the time said: “Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery.
“The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to 14 days, before returning home to continue her recovery.”
Prince William was by his wife’s side before and after her operation.
The doting Prince of Wales then visited the London clinic on January 18, 2024, as Kate recovered from her procedure.
She was released from hospital after 13 days on January 29, 2024.
A palace spokesperson said after she left hospital: “The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress.
“The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided.
“The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world.”
Kate initially went back to Windsor before continuing her recovering at the family’s Norfolk country home, Anmer Hall.
Royal watcher Jennie Bond told OK!: “Windsor is lovely, and they have a beautiful house, of course.
“But it’s also on the Heathrow flight path and that can be very intrusive.
“William and Kate find all they want as a family in the wide open spaces that Norfolk offers.”
Jennie also added that Kate will have been treated to some “fabulous” gifts and “delicious” hampers from doting friends as she recovers.
She told the publication: “I’m sure these old friends would know exactly how to keep Kate’s spirits up after such major surgery.
“They have probably pampered her with fabulous gifts of luxurious spa products and hampers of delicious goodies to tempt her tastebuds.
“They know what she might like to watch on TV or to read, and may have been sending recommendations and encouraging her to rest and take the time out she needs.”
If Kate recuperates according to schedule then her first engagement back could be at the family service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024.
However, sources have claimed her commitment to her royal duties could see her get back into work as soon as she can.
Following her operation in January 2024, a statement from Kensington Palace said: “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate.
“She hopes the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.
“She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
