AVERILL PARK, (NEWS10) --Two trips to the Section 2 girls basketball Class C title game were on the line Monday night in Averill Park. In the first matchup of the night the two-seed, Duanesburg, took on the five-seed, Maple Hill.
The Eagles dominated from the opening tip, taking an 18-3 lead into the second quarter. They kept their foot on the gas, on their way to a 59-25 win. Duanesburg senior Allison O'Hanlon knocked down eight triples, pouring in 34 points in the win.
In game two, top-seeded Greenwich took on the five seed, Maple Hill. The Witches flew out of the gate and didn't look back, leading 14-3 after the first quarter. They took a 27-9 lead into halftime, on their way to a 48-30 win. Senior Adrianna Rojas led the way with 15 points.
This sets up a rare rematch between defending section champions. Duanesburg won the Class C title last year, while Greenwich won the Class CC title. The Witches then knocked off the Eagles in the Class C-CC game to advance to the state tournament. With Class CC no longer existing, the two teams will now battle for the Class C championship Saturday at HVCC at 1:00 PM.
