Donald Trump's performances at conservative presidential primaries have been "catastrophic" for his 2024 campaign, a Republican political operative says.
Reed Galen, former campaign manager for Sen. John McCain and Lincoln Project co-founder, appeared on "The 11th Hour" on MSNBC Monday evening.
Galen argued Trump didn't have the support he'll need to claim victory in the November election, despite the primary defeat of his remaining Republican opponent Nikki Haley in her home state of South Carolina over the weekend.
"Trump has not consolidated his base," Galen argued. "He can't lose more votes."
Galen pointed to the South Carolina numbers that saw 40 percent of votes snagged by Haley and 25 percent of voters saying they would not vote for Trump.
"That is catastrophic for Trump," Galen said. "He can't lose more votes."
Galen predicts Trump will only amp up his far right rhetoric in the months that follow and isolate moderate Republicans who might have preferred Haley to him.
"The more that he does this year, the crazier he's gonna be," Galen said. "Remember, the way to keep his base fired up is to say and do crazier and crazier things. As he does, that he will push more and more Nikki Haley-type Republicans back into the undecided poll."
