A Bethany man has been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of two boys who formerly played on a baseball team he coached, according to Wallingford police.
Frank Melillo, 58, of 320 Falls Road, Bethany, is charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault and three counts of risk of injury to a minor, Wallingford police said.
The Wallingford Police Department said it received a complaint in April 2023 of an alleged sexual assault through the Wolcott Police Department, which initiated an investigation into Melillo.
“Melillo was a baseball coach for youth in the area in the past and was accused of sexually assaulting two boys who formerly played on his baseball team around 2010. He resided in Wallingford at the time,” Wallingford police said in a statement. The team was not named.
Police said detectives spoke with two male victims about the alleged incidents, who were both juveniles at the time. “Detectives determined that these (alleged) acts occurred in Wallingford as well as other jurisdictions,” the statement said.
Melillo is free on two $50,000 bonds, one for each warrant, and will be arraigned at Superior Court in Meriden on March 8, 2024, Wallingford police said.
The Wallingford Police Department Detective Division investigated the case, with help from the Wolcott Police Department, Woodbury Police Department, and Watertown Police Department.
