One man was killed and three others wounded in a shooting Monday afternoon in Greater Grand Crossing, Chicago police said.
Officers responded to a ShotSpotter gunshot detection system alert about 5:41 p.m. in the 7100 block of South State Street when they found two men on the ground with gunshot wounds, police said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a man was arguing with another man when the second person opened fire, striking the man in the leg, CPD Deputy Chief Don Jerome said. The man, whose age wasn’t known, was taken to St. Bernard’s Hospital.
A short time later, the gunman exchanged fire with an unknown third party, and the gunman was struck in the leg. The second shooter is still at large.
Two men, who are believed by police to be bystanders, were wounded by stray bullets and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, Jerome said. One of them, a 59-year-old who was shot in the abdomen, later died at the hospital; the other, a 49-year-old who was shot in the head, was in grave condition.
Shortly after the shooting, officers found the possible gunman inside a Subway restaurant with a gunshot wound to his leg, and he was taken into custody and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.

“It’s a tragic incident but a lot of good folks live out here. We believe it’s an isolated incident and in this case fortunately we at least have one of the offenders in custody and we’ll work hard to bring the second offender in custody as well,” Jerome said.
Detectives are currently searching for the second shooter. No other information was available.
Two people opened fire in a public park Sunday afternoon in Rogers Park, killing a 19-year-old woman and injuring three other people. Later that day, three people were killed — including a 14-year-old boy — and one injured in a mass shooting in Chatham.
