Donald Trump Jr. received a letter accompanied by an unidentified "white powder" at his residence on Monday, triggering a police response, a new report shows.
According to The Daily Beast, three sources said "Multiple fire trucks and men in hazmat suits were spotted outside Donald Trump Jr.’s home in Jupiter, Florida, on Monday evening."
As of press time, it is not clear whether the substance poses a hazard, but a source told Maggie Haberman it is not believed to be lethal.
However, many such attacks, generally false alarms, have been made against politicians and public figures over the years, which always prompts a biological weaponry threat, in light of the anthrax letters that killed five Americans and sickened another 17 in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
In one such incident last year, a powder-laced letter proclaiming, "I am going to kill you" was found at the Manhattan District Attorney's office intended for Alvin Bragg, the prosecutor who charged former President Donald Trump with bookkeeping fraud. That substance was determined not to be hazardous. A similar incident occurred at the campaign office of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in 2018, prompting an evacuation and precautionary hospitalizations.
Common targets of such threats include election workers, who have become lightning rods for threats and harassment as former President Donald Trump whips up nationwide distrust of the electoral process.
