POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (PIX11) --- A 5-year-old boy who was reported missing died after he was found submerged in several feet of water in an upstate creek on Sunday, authorities said.
Police began the search for the child at the Manchester Gardens Apartment complex in Poughkeepsie at around 2:40 p.m. before the child was spotted in Casper Creek near Vassar College a few hours later, according to a spokesperson for the Poughkeepsie Police Department.
The boy's shoe was near the creek on Manchester Road before he was found submerged in several feet of water, authorities said. The child was not breathing when he was pulled from the creek and rushed to the hospital, but could not be saved, police said.
It was unclear how the boy wound up in the creek. He has not been identified.
The investigation is ongoing.
