ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced over $128 million in awards for Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) and Project Based Rental Program (PBRA) owners for the 2023 renewal and new Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) Program grants. Out of this $128 million, over $8 million went to New York-based PHAs and PBRAs.
The FSS program is an initiative offered to families in HUD-assisted housing where participants receive coaching, service referrals, and establish a family escrow savings account. The goal of these resources is to increase earned income and financial empowerment in these families, reduce or eliminate the need for welfare assistance, and aid in progress toward economic independence.
