Police are investigating a smash-and-grab robbery at a Southington smoke shop early Monday morning.
Officers responded to a burglar alarm at Land Smoke Shop at 722 West St. around 4:20 a.m. on Monday, according to the Southington Police Department.
Arriving officers learned that a vehicle drove into the building, causing significant damage. The damage included the shattered glass door, windows alongside the door and the window frame, police said.
Inside the business, officers found shelves knocked over and merchandise scattered throughout the shop, according to police.
Outside, officers located three trash-like containers that contained items from the smoke shop scattered all over the parking lot, police said.
According to police, the suspect vehicle was not located at the scene.
Officers recovered evidence from the scene, along with a video that shows a dark-colored vehicle driving in reverse into the front of the building and going through the front door, police said. Several suspects were reportedly observed exiting the vehicle, entering the shop and filling up trash cans and bags with items in the store before leaving through the front entrance, according to police.
Police said the total amount of the loss is not yet known.
