All trains cancelled on two major rail networks after signal faults

Two rail networks have been forced to cancel all of their trains this morning due to a ‘major signalling fault’.

In a major blow to commuters, all trains on the Southern and Thameslink networks, covering south and east London, have been cancelled and will not be running ‘until further notice’.

Both providers have issued ‘do not travel’ warnings.

Plus, anyone hoping to catch the train to Gatwick Airport this morning may be left disappointed as there will be no Gatwick Express services running at all.

It comes as the south of England faces heavy rain, high winds and the potential for flooding with a yellow weather warning in place until 9am on Monday.

And to top it all off, National Rail says a landslip between London Paddington and Reading is also causing severe disruption to services.

Two out of four lines between Twyford and Reading have been forced to close after an ‘unstable area of earth’ was discovered.

Southern warned that services which do run are expected to be extremely busy.

The networks are also dealing with points failures in the Haywards Heath and Hove areas of Sussex, meaning services between Cambridge and Brighton, and Brighton and Three Bridges and Chichester, won’t run.

There are severe delays between Littlehampton and Southwick, between Brighton and Three Bridges, between Swanley and Rochester, bewteen Deptford and Westcombe Park, and between Welwyn Garden City and Hitchin.

Services between Littlehampton and London Victoria won’t run, with passengers having to travel via Horsham instead.

The severe delays between Southampton Central and Fareham, between London St Pancras and Finsbury Park, between Horley and Purley, between Riddlesdown and Hurst Green, and between New Southgate and Potters Bar have improved to minor delays.
