PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- For the first time, a Clackamas County high school's Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is competing on a national stage.
The Oregon City High School JROTC Advanced Unarmed Drill Team is set to compete at nationals in Daytona, Florida this May.
Out of 200 teams in the western region, only four advanced to nationals.
Even getting to the finals puts them in the top 3% of over 1,700 army JROTC units nationwide.
Additionally, Oregon City is the only team from the Pacific Northwest competing in the finals.
While the trip to the finals is paid for by the U.S. Army, they also qualified for the Rocky Mountain Regionals in Denver later in April.
If you want to help the 20-cadet team's regional travel costs, you can donate on Oregon City High School's JROTC site.
