Mark Ronson Reveals His 1-Year-Old Daughter's Role In The Creation Of 'I'm Just Ken' & We're So Jealous
Much like the Kens of the world, Mark Ronson’s 1-year-old daughter is “great at doing stuff.” Including giving her dad’s Oscar-nominated song a listen. The music producer revealed to People that his little girl — who he shares with actress Grace Gummer and whose name they have not shared — got to hear “I’m Just Ken” way before Ryan Gosling, the other Kens, and Barbie fans worldwide.
Oh, and definitely before Allan.
“She was born in the middle of making [the soundtrack],” he said. “Her first time in a recording studio was when we were doing the final mix on ‘I’m Just Ken,’ and I was walking her back and forth, listening at a much more reasonable volume than I usually would be.”
OK, is it weird to be jealous of a baby? Because we totally are. She got to be in the room where the Kenergy-filled ballad was created?! A ballad that just so happens to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song … no big deal.
But, like any young Barbie-in-training, “I’m Just Ken” isn’t his daughter’s favorite. She’s all about the Song of the Year, “What Was I Made For?”
“My mom has a record player in the house, and we were listening to the vinyl. [The song] came on, and you could tell — something about Billie’s voice and how bewitching that song is, she kind of went into a bit of a trance,” he said.
“I sent Billie a video, like, ‘Look what you’re out here doing to these kids.'”
An Epic Reveal
Gummer (AKA Meryl Streep’s daughter!) announced her pregnancy on the red carpet of W Magazine’s 50th-anniversary party in Oct. 2022. She wore a formfitting red sweater dress and peacoat that prefectly accentuated her growing baby bump. (Nicely done, Gummer and Michael Kors!)
The couple then announced their daughter’s birth in a much less conspicuous way. A few months later, they went for a walk along the West Side Highway in New York City and Ronson had their bundle of joy strapped to his chest.
“My family is my anchor,” Ronson told People. “For everything, they’re at the forethought of every single decision I make.”
