Jasper, a generative artificial intelligence app company, acquired Clipdrop, an AI image creation and editing platform, from Stability AI.
The move not only strengthens Jasper’s position in the market overall but also marks its entry into the European market, the company said in a Thursday (Feb. 22) press release.
The acquisition will allow Jasper to provide a comprehensive copilot for enterprise marketing teams, enabling them to create more personalized and optimized marketing strategies, according to the release.
Clipdrop, founded in 2020 by Google alumni Cyril Diagne, Damien Henry and Jonathan Blanchet, is used by millions of creative designers and brands worldwide, the release said.
The platform offers users the ability to edit existing images, create new ones and generate a variety of image variations in terms of size, detail and style, per the release. For marketers and brand leaders, Clipdrop’s technology can enhance their ad strategies and help them develop on-brand creative content.
Jasper CEO Timothy Young said in the release that the addition of Clipdrop to Jasper will further Jasper’s goal of becoming the most comprehensive marketing copilot in the industry.
The acquisition also allows Jasper to expand its reach to Europe, and it has plans to invest in talent and customer acquisition in the region, according to the release.
The Clipdrop team will continue to operate from its headquarters in Paris, the release said. Stability AI will continue to collaborate with Clipdrop on research and provide models to the platform.
The acquisition of Clipdrop closed Feb. 20, with business customers gaining immediate access to the platform through the Jasper API, per the release. Over time, Clipdrop’s functionality will be further integrated into Jasper’s copilot. Individuals can still purchase Clipdrop as a standalone product via Clipdrop.co.
In another development in the category, Amazon Web Services said in November that it introduced an AI-powered image generator that is likely to be used by those in the advertising, eCommerce, media and entertainment industries.
In October, Meta began rolling out generative AI-powered features for ad creatives in its Ads Manager, saying it aims to help advertisers create and optimize their ad campaigns.
