Provo’s Velour showcases local women musicians in February

Les Femmes De Velour is an annual celebration of women artists.

38 different female acts will grace the stage by the end of the 10-day festival. Many of the performers are veterans of the Velour venue.

Emily Bea experienced her first show at the Velour when she was just beginning her musical journey at the age of 15.

“I just remember thinking it was the coolest venue and I just wanted to play here some day. So it’s been fun over the years to fulfill that lifelong dream,” Bea said.

American pop rock band Imagine Dragons actually played at the Velour before hitting it big.

American singer and songwriter Iris returned home to Utah to continue pursuing her career after years of collaborating with musicians in Nashville.

“I had been talking to Corey about playing the Velour again, and he was like, ‘We have this awesome music festival where all of the local female artists play,’” Iris said. “And you know, the Velour is just iconic for the Provo scene.”

“To be able to come together as female artists and to be recognized and to share the stage with so many female artists — it’s just so fun,” Bea said.

Bea has seen her music evolve as her life priorities have shifted. She has grown from a teenage dreamer to a mother and wife.

She recently played her final show in Utah before preparing to move to Tennessee later this month.

Concerts featuring female artists will continue each weekend in February.
