Chris Sutton has said that he is staggered that some Spurs fans are now calling for Ange Postecoglou to be a little more pragmatic in light of the team’s recent performances.
Last summer, Tottenham fans were crying out for a manager who plays on the front foot after enduring several years of negative football under the likes of Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.
Postecoglou has certainly delivered that, making Spurs one of the most entertaining teams to watch in the division, with the Australian implementing the style while also delivering decent results.
However, over the last few weeks, there are some signs that opposition sides have figured out the weaknesses in Tottenham’s system, with the Lilywhites looking short of ideas while also appearing defensively suspect.
That has led to suggestions from Spurs fans that Postecoglou may perhaps need to tweak his system. Sutton admitted that he is shocked that fans have started moaning so soon into the Australian’s tenure.
The former Celtic star told BBC 606: “Do you know what Robbie? I thought these calls would come next season about Spurs needing to be more pragmatic.
“But we’ve had a couple of Spurs fans on now, I’m absolutely staggered by these fans we’ve had on, this is what they wanted and now they’re moaning about it, deary me.”

Football fans can be quite fickle and now that Spurs fans’ expectations have been raised, it is not surprising that some are unhappy. However, there is no doubt the vast majority of the fan base recognises that this is a transitional season and that it will take time for Ange to build the sort of squad he needs.
