Austrian Post: The electric drive of the new delivery vans relieves the physical strain on our delivery drivers
Austrian Post is purchasing almost 100 electrically powered delivery vans.
Instead of using muscle power to push the delivery trolleys loaded with letter mail and small parcels, as was previously the case, the new models have a built-in electric drive, making the delivery process easier. An almost doubling of the capacity offers more space for letters, parcels, direct mail and print media. The first tranche, consisting of 27 units, has already been in use throughout Austria since the end of last year, and the second tranche is currently being delivered to the delivery bases. “The electric drive of the new delivery vans relieves the physical strain on our delivery drivers and makes delivery much easier. We are therefore starting the roll-out in areas where our employees have to cope with steep inclines on foot,” says Peter Umundum, Director of the Board of Management for Parcel & Logistics, Österreichische Post AG. LONG RANGE, TWO GEARS AND CENTRAL LOCKINGThe post on the “eTrolley” model from the Swiss electromobility expert Kyburz. The delivery van has a payload of 120 kilograms, a range of 20 kilometres and gradients of up to 30 percent. A rigid rear axle, two movable wheels at the front and an additional step-climbing wheel make it manoeuvrable and easy to manoeuvre. The delivery van is equipped with lithium-ion batteries and a powerful motor with an output of 500 watts. It also has lighting, a horn, a forward and a reverse gear, as well as an electronic central locking system for all compartments. Austrian Post has already tested motorised delivery vans in the past, but these were retrofits of existing equipment. The new electrically powered delivery vans, on the other hand, are already equipped with an electric drive ex works and are specially designed to meet the requirements of Austrian Post.
