Jordan North ‘blindsided by Radio 1’s sudden axe after months of behind-the-scenes chaos’
JORDAN North was reportedly ‘blindsided’ by the sudden news of his departure from Radio 1 after months of behind-the-scenes chaos.
The popular presenter, 34, had been with the station for over a decade before it was announced he would be leaving on Friday.
Yesterday North was revealed as the new host of Capital Radio’s breakfast show, taking over from Roman Kemp.
At the time the news broke, he had already wrapped up his final episode of the Going Home show, completely unaware that it would be his last.
It was later confirmed that former Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing would be replacing North in a move which some fans weren’t pleased about.
Now The Mirror has reported that information about North’s departure “was issued without his knowledge’.
The publication says that tensions were running high for a few months surrounding his exit after he let producers know he wanted to leave.
The source said: “Conversations were going back and forth between Jordan’s people and the top people at the BBC for months, and over time they deteriorated.
“Once he formally requested to leave, that was it – he was off air, immediately.
“It’s a shame it ended on such a bad note after 10 years,”
A rep for North has been contacted by The Sun for comment.
It comes after it was revealed that North was signing a big money deal to join the Capital FM Breakfast team.
Insiders told The Sun how Jordan had informed his bosses of his decision recently, with the Beeb understandably upset at him leaving.
A source said: “Jordan is moving to Capital FM to replace Roman and he could not be more excited.
“It is absolutely huge for him and although it’s hard to leave the BBC he is excited to get started on Capital.
“Jordan’s decision has been a hard pill to swallow for the BBC but there was nothing they could do to change his mind.”
A statement released by the BBC said: “Radio 1 will be saying goodbye to Jordan North.
“Jordan has been behind some of the most hilarious and entertaining moments on air over the years, and has been a constant source of inspiration for younger presenters.
“Thank you for everything.”
The radio star had been on Radio 1 for the past 10 years, working his way up through the ranks.
His first major show was Greatest Hits on Sundays.
In 2021, North joined the Radio 1 Drivetime show alongside Vick Hope.
