Luton Town boss Rob Edwards has admitted his side got a look at ‘the best’ in the shape of Liverpool in their 4-1 loss at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The Hatters took a shock 1-0 lead in the early stages of the Premier League encounter, but Liverpool started the second half quickly and took control.
Goals from Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo, in the space of three minutes, turned the game on its head and Liverpool led before the hour mark.
Luis Diaz then got on the scoresheet with 20 minutes left, before Harvey Elliott put the icing on the cake with a goal at the death.
Luton boss Edwards thinks overall his team performed well, but admits they came up against Anfield and Liverpool, and saw close up what the best look like, something which will prove to be a good experience.
“It was overall a good performance but in the second half we just saw Anfield. We saw Liverpool”, Edwards told the media post match.
“Full-throttle football, atmosphere was amazing.
“It was a good experience for us to see what the best looks like.
“They were amazing.”
Liverpool now boast a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, though second placed Manchester City and third placed Arsenal have played a game fewer.
Luton remain in the last relegation spot, behind Liverpool’s Merseyside neighbours Everton on goal difference.
