WHETHER or not you follow recipe instructions, we’ve all read the phrase “turn halfway through cooking” at one point or another.
However, a lot of people are discovering that this step isn’t exactly what they thought.
A TikTok user shared her surprise after learning she had been reading cooking instructions wrong[/caption]In her video, the TikToker, who goes by Beahaving (@beahaving), sparked a debate over the guideline.
When throwing any frozen snack into the oven, it’s likely the instructions advise you on the temperature and duration at which to cook the food.
The step-by-step guide almost always recommends turning your snacks halfway through the process.
Beahaving demonstrated what she interpreted this instruction to mean.
After removing her fries from the oven, she carefully began to flip over each piece of food.
“This is the first time I’ve considered that this isn’t what the bag means by ‘Turn halfway through cooking,'” she told her followers.
Instead of turning each item of food over, the instructions are actually recommending you rotate the tray or pan on which they are placed.
If this revelation has left you feeling confused, the experts at Cookist can explain further.
“Rotation is done to avoid one part of your batch drying out or getting too brown and burnt,” the cooking pros said.
And if you’re only learning this information for the first time, don’t worry, you are not alone.
TikTok users shared their thoughts on the step in the comments section.
“If you’re supposed to rotate the cooking sheet it would say rotate cooking sheet, not flip,” said one viewer.
“I’m so mad right now, are you serious? How did I not realize?” asked another TikTok user.
“LMAO, I used to flip every pizza roll over, I never knew what it meant,” commented a third person.
