Christie Brinkley turned 70 a few weeks back, and the former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model has been celebrating her birthday all month long. And on Tuesday, Brinkley took to social media to express gratitude and acceptance with her body as she reached the milestone.
In an Instagram post, Brinkley shared a series of photos in which she flaunted her fit figure and toned abs in an Alo Yoga set. She captioned the photos with a poem detailing how she's finally come to love and accept her body.
"Looking in the mirror on my 70th birthday and what do I see, I’m finally happy with the person looking back back at me," the onetime face of CoverGirl wrote. "I’m no longer critical and demanding, now I’m grateful and understanding."
"I’ve put this body [through] it, I’ve broken every bone, in tiny miracles I’m all healed in my heart and soul I’m home," Brinkley added. "It’s taken 70 years to get here, in tears and joy I’ve found my happy, so now I’m going to end this poem, before I get too sappy!"
In 2021, Brinkley underwent hip replacement surgery after suffering decades of chronic pain stemming from a helicopter crash during a ski trip in Telluride in 1994. She was one of six people involved in the crash, which left the group stranded on a mountain for five hours.
"New Year, New Hip!" she wrote on Instagram at the time. "I injured my hip in a back country skiing helicopter crash on a mountaintop in Telluride many years ago. The pain in my hip got a little bit worse each year."
"Twelve years ago I was told it needed to be replaced but the surgery was daunting! And I had things to do," she continued. "But quarantine put a damper on any plans so I decided to finally take time for myself and do something about the pain that had progressively influenced my decisions."
Earlier in the month, Brinkley showed off her figure wearing a black one-piece adorned with a beaded belt; suggesting that three years later, she seems to be feeling (and looking) as great as ever.
