AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Forbes Advisor recently analyzed metrics from a nationwide survey to see which states have the most spoiled dogs, and Texas ranks No. 8.
According to the survey, more than one in five dog owners spent more money on Christmas gifts for their dogs than on gifts for their friends and family.
While Texas doesn't take the No. 1 spot for spoiled dogs, it does rank in the top ten with a score of 70.8 out of 100. Florida ranked at the top of the list, with a score of 100 out of 100.
According to Forbes, 49.5% of dog owners in Texas spend more money on their dog's health and grooming than they do their own, and 44.5% of dog owners regularly throw birthday parties for their dogs.
Forbes said Texas is home to the fourth-highest percentage of dog owners who put perfume or cologne on their dog (27%). Texas dog owners are also sixth most likely to say they've pushed their dog in a stroller and that they've ordered their dog a special treat at a restaurant.
According to the report, nearly three-fifths (58%) of Texas dog owners claim to regularly prepare homemade dog food or treats, the sixth-highest amount.
Dog owners in Texas are also seventh most likely to throw birthday parties or celebrations (44.5%) for their dogs and ninth most likely to buy outfits and accessories for their dogs (59.5%), Forbes noted.
To determine which states have the most spoiled dogs, Forbes Advisor compared all 50 states across ten metrics. Data for the metrics came from a survey of 10,000 U.S. dog owners, with at least 200 in each state.
