AUSTIN (Nexstar) — Ryan Meetup, the Brooklyn-based organization "by Ryans, for Ryans," is hosting the first "Ryan Rodeo" in Austin this Saturday, Feb. 24.
They invite Ryans of all ages to unite in pursuit of an ambitious ultimate goal — dethroning "Ivans" for the Guinness World Record of the largest same-name gathering.
"It’s fixin’ to be a rip-roarin' time, as we gather round and revel in the beauty of our shared name. Don’t be surprised if some Ryans start square dancin’ — after all, you can’t spell country without R-Y," organizer Ryan said.
The event is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Feb. 24 at Buck Wild on Sixth Street. All ages and genders are invited. Organizers will require ID proof that attendees are named "Ryan."
"We’ll be layin’ down the law to ensure no Bryans get in," Ryan said.
The Ryan Rodeo will feature music from local musician Ryan Hunter, a bull-riding competition with a "special prize with their name on it," and a "square dancin' extravaganza."
The world record for the largest same-name gathering was set by 2,325 Ivans in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2017. As one Ryan Meetup organizer wrote, "We're coming for you, Ivan."
"This should be a day where no Ryan is alone in the Lone Star State."
