SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Mayor Gary McCarthy announced that the city of Schenectady received over $10 million in infrastructure improvement grants. The infrastructure improvement efforts will be continued by the Schenectady Public Works team led by Paul Lafond to improve the city's water and sewer systems.
Two grants were administered, one for the Downtown District Pump Station Modernization Project and one for the Mohawk River Inflow Reduction and Resiliency Program. They were awarded $50,000 and $10,000,000 respectively.
The Downtown District Pump Station Modernization Project grant was awarded by the New York Environmental Facilities Corporation. The grant will be used to modernize and reconstruct or replace the South Ferry Street Pump Station and the Broadway Pump Station.
The Mohawk River Inflow Reduction and Resiliency Program received its grant from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation. This will allow the city to expand its system pumping capacity and reduce inflow to the system, reducing sewer overflows during heavy rain. Overall, this will improve the Mohawk River's water quality.
