I’ve played Bingo weekly for 40 years but am amazed after I hit the National jackpot – I think my bank account is a joke
A BINGO lover who has been playing every week for 40 years was left “in shock” after hitting the national jackpot.
Susan, aged 67, initially thought she had won £1,000 but was amazed when she had actually bagged the £50,000 National Game jackpot on top of the local full house prize.
The mum-of-five had marked off all the numbers on her ticket within the first 16 numbers being called, leading to a huge payout.
Susan said she had turned up at her local Mecca Bingo in Kingstanding, Birmingham, as she usually does weekly – and had no idea that her regular evening activity would unexpectedly turn into an unforgettable triumph.
She said: “When I’m playing bingo, I don’t really pay attention to how much money is up for grabs. I just love playing.’’
After she had declared she had a House, the crowds started to applaud loudly and there were excitable looks from her fellow players, leaving her rather confused.
Susan – who wishes to keep her surname anonymous – added: “I called House and thought that everyone was making a very big fuss for a £1,000 win.
“I was playing with my husband who turned to me and said, ‘You’ve won the biggen’!’ but I didn’t believe him and I am still in complete shock.”
It wasn’t until Sue Edwards, the club’s duty manager, personally approached her to check her ticket and confirm the win, that Susan realised the magnitude of her victory.
The delighted mum said she has no idea what she will spend the bumper jackpot prize fund on and it hasn’t sunk in yet.
The bingo winner continued: “Even when looking at the money in my bank account, I can’t quite believe it’s there so I haven’t really thought about what to spend it on.
“I might treat myself to a new car!’’
Sue Edwards, duty manager at Mecca Bingo Kingstanding, said: ‘’We’re always thrilled for our winners but the £50k National Bingo Game jackpot is a real cause for celebration, especially when it’s a regular player.
“Susan was in complete shock when I told her.
“The atmosphere in the venue was electric and everyone was just so pleased for her.’’
