A fire Saturday evening at a vacant house in Joppa caused about $50,000 in damage, according to a release from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
At 6:27 p.m., the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company responded to the 3400 block of Dorothy Avenue for a fire at a one-story, single-family house, according to the release. It took about 20 minutes for 44 firefighters to control the blaze. The interior fire was discovered by a neighbor. The house had been vacant for years and was the subject of vandalism.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, the fire marshal release said.
