BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay warns show could ‘get nasty’ after epic morning disaster as Sally Nugent apologises to fans

BBC Breakfast presenter Jon Kay admitted that the show could turn ‘nasty’ after he and his co-star were dealt a devestating blow.

The TV host was reunited with his regular co-star Sally Nugent after she went missing from the programme yesterday.

Despite having had the day off, she was soon left remarking that she might not be “firing on all cylinders”.

This came shortly after a post on X – formerly Twitter – from Jon in which he admitted that he wasn’t sure “how the next three and a half hours will pan out”.

The morning disaster facing the two hosts was that the canteen in the BBC Breakfast studios in Salford was closed and as a result, the presenting pair had been unable to have their morning coffee’s.

Sharing a picture of an empty coffee mug, Jon wrote: “Some very serious news to bring you this morning. The #BBCBreakfast canteen appears to be shut.

“No coffee. Genuinely not sure how the next three and a half hours will pan out.”

The situation later come up on air as it was clear that Jon, 54, was left rattled by the lack of hot beverages on set.

Early into today’s programme, he told sally that he was in a “black coffee hole” due to the closure of the canteen.

Jon implied the hosts had no idea what had happened as he told the viewers at home: “Our canteen is closed for some reason. Our brilliant canteen staff aren’t here.”

Sally went on to issue an apology as she said:  “Apologies if we’re not completely firing at 100 cylinders at the moment.”

Jon famously drinks five cups of coffee before 7:30am which led to Sally quipping: “I’m worried about you, Jon!”

Fearing for what was yet to come, he confessed: “I know. It could get nasty.”

Carol Kirkwood went onto further kick the boot in as they crossed over to the cheery star for the latest weather updates.

She admitted that she had free-flowing tea and coffee and so hadn’t had any issues all morning.

Whilst the main show is hosted in MediaCityUK in Salford, Carol presents her section of the show from the BBC’s TV studios in London.

The star offered up a series of sly digs as she said during her report:  “I had tea earlier and I must say it’s really nice Jon.”

Before saying goodbye to the star, she rubbed it in the pair’s faces even more to say: “Jon and Sal I think I need another cup of tea so I might just go to the kitchen and make one.”
