Sunday Sport: Galway beat Tyrone in Omagh, United lead 2-1 vs Luton Town

Galway have picked up a much-needed win in the Allianz National Football League this afternoon.

Cathal Sweeney’s second half goal just edged them ahead of Tyrone to finish with a 1-10 to 12 points.

In Division Two, Kildare are hosting Armagh with that one just underway while Meath just squeezed past Louth by 1-11 to 1-09.

Soccer

Brighton are up to seventh in the Premier League after hammering struggling Sheffield United 5-0 at Bramall Lane.

Simon Adringra scored twice as the Seagulls ran riot at Bramall Lane.

Boss Roberto De Zerbi tells says an early red card for the hosts shifted the game in their favour.

It is now back to back 5-0 defeats at home for Sheffield United.

Elsewhere, a quickfire double from Rasmus Hojlund has Manchester United 2-1 up on Luton in the late game.

Rangers have climbed above Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership after a 3-nil win at St Johnstone.

It’s now nine victories out of nine this calendar year for the Ibrox club.

 

Rugby

Ulster are looking to make it a clean sweep for Irish sides in the URC this weekend.

Dan McFarland’s side are away to Ospreys and lead by 7 points to 6.

Swimming

Daniel Wiffen is looking to add another world medal to his collection this afternoon.

The Irishman goes in the final of the 1500m Freestyle at the World Aquatic Championships in Doha just before 4:15pm.

Just before that, Mona McSharry is in her third final of the week as she swims in the 50m Breaststroke decider.

And this evening the 4x100m men’s medley relay team will be in the pool for their final.

 

Athletics

Ireland’s fastest man is one of those in action on day two of the National Senior Indoor Championships in Abbotstown this afternoon.

Israel Olatunde won his 60m semi-final to qualify for this afternoon’s final, while Olympians Louise Shanahan and Mark English are the star names in the 800m.

Sharlene Mawdsley bested her relay teammate Sophie Becker to take the women’s 400m final.

Elsewhere, Cathal Doyle just edged out Nick Griggs to take the 1500m final with both men falling over the line at the same time.
