Hospital serves food that looks like something a patient has discharged
An elderly man was served up a ‘disgusting’ lunch at a hospital that consisted of four potatoes, turkey, and watery gravy.
A photo of the meal was posted by Lara to social media showing the unappetising meal given to her poorly dad at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Glasgow.
She has branded the hospital a ‘disgrace’ and expressed her frustration online.
Lara wrote: ‘This is the lunch served up to my father in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Glasgow today, an absolute disgrace. Disgusting.’
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde says it is committed to providing ‘fresh, healthy and appetising’ meals.
But it did admit the plate of food fell below their standards.
The post generated widespread anger against the hospital from people online, with one user saying the meal needed to be served at Holyrood to spark change.
Belhaven Bear wrote: ‘Need to serve that at Holyrood before anything will happen, our politicians are totally oblivious to what is actually happening on the ground, how can that help to make someone well.’
A spokesperson for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: ‘NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is committed to serving fresh, healthy and appetising food to all our patients, and all meals served at our hospitals are prepared in-house to meet strict nutritional standards.
‘However, on this occasion, the food we have served has fallen below the standards we set ourselves, and which patients should be able to expect, and we apologise to the patient involved and their family.
‘We would encourage anyone who would like to discuss their meals to get in touch with our catering team who can quickly resolve any issues’.
