Following this, Ashwin was seen walking towards umpire Wilson, engaging in what appeared to be a heated conversation. Soon after, Wilson made a gesture touching his left shoulder with his right hand, indicating a penalty of five runs.
This penalty was a consequence of Ravindra Jadeja receiving a warning the previous day for stepping into the danger zone, which applied to the entire team according to cricket laws. Ashwin’s repetition of the same mistake meant England would start their innings with a five-run advantage. Despite Ashwin’s dissatisfaction with the decision, he had no choice but to resume his batting and face the next delivery, sparking a frenzy on Twitter.
