London Overground strikes called off last minute over improved pay offer
Strikes planned on London Overground’s network next week have been called off due to an improved pay offer.
The strike action was due to take place on Monday, February 19 and Tuesday, February 20, and again on March 4 and involved around 300 members.
The RMT union said ‘progress’ had been made on the pay offer previously tabled by Arriva.
Members will vote on the new offer next week in an online referendum.
RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: ‘London Overground members working for Arriva Rail London have made progress through their determination to take strike action.
‘The dispute is not over but we have made sufficient progress to suspend the action next week in order for our members to assess the new offer fully in a referendum.’
Arriva Rail London confirmed it offered a ‘good pay award’ last month but this was slammed by Mr Lynch who said it was ‘below inflation’.
The news comes after the new names of London Overground’s six lines were revealed.
The six names will be Lioness, Mildmay, Windrush, Weaver, Suffragette and Liberty and will be rolled out in the autumn.
They are being introduced to help make the network easier to navigate and is one of the biggest changes in the history of the capital’s tube map.
