Don’t waste your money on $200 La Mer moisturizer – there’s a doctor-approved dupe for $1.39 with the same ingredients
A BUDGETING expert has shared a $1.39 dupe for a $200 La Mer cream.
She looked at the science — the ingredients list — to determine that the La Mer cream didn’t have the value.
Jess (@ecommjess) shared the beauty dupe in a TikTok video.
She explained that La Mer’s $200 face cream simply wasn’t worth its exorbitant price tag.
“At its cheapest, Crème de la Mer is a $200 moisturizer and in case you didn’t know, ingredients are listed so that the largest amount in the product comes first,” she said.
“Which makes it really awkward that the second ingredient in this cream is mineral oil. A gigantic bottle is $2.”
Upon further inspection, Jess also had an issue with the third ingredient on the list as well as other dealbreaking flaws.
“Petrolatum [is] also $2 and even though there are some antioxidants, unfortunately, Crème de la Mer is packaged in a jar,” she said.
“[It] means that every time you open it, you’re exposing it to air and light which is inactivating the antioxidants.”
Instead, she opted for the much more affordable skincare, the Nivea Cream which came in at just $1.39 for the same amount of product.
“Their second, third, fourth, and fifth ingredients are the same,” she said.
Jess revealed that experts agreed the two products were similar, enough so that a dermatologist conducted an experiment applying each product to half her face for 30 days.
“By week four, there was no question. Nivea performed better!” Jess said.
“This dupe is doctorate-approved.”
People shared their experiences using the Nivea cream as a dupe.
“I buy a big jar of the Nivea cream and mix in an entire bottle of The Ordinary Marine Hyaluronics. Boom, you got yourself a perfect dupe!” said one commenter.
