‘Fantastic deals’ scream supermarket shoppers rushing to buy Valentine’s Day food and flowers scanning for just 22p
SHOPPERS still hungry for love will be pleased to hear one supermarket is slashing the price of its Valentine’s Day staples.
Sainsbury’s has reduced the cost of its Valentine’s Day menu items by half, giving romantics the chance to indulge on a budget.
The full meal deal consisted of a starter, main, side, dessert, and bottle of fizz or wine.
It was available to purchase from February 7 in the run up to the special day, and ended when stores closed February 14.
This year’s menu included scallop gratin, leek and cheddar tart and fragrant vegetable bao buns.
And now, Sainsbury’s is selling the remaining Valentine’s Day menu items with more than 50% off.
Shoppers have taken to social media to share the “fantastic deals” and have posted photos in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group.
One Sainsbury’s customer spotted Taste The Difference beef rump steaks reduced to £3.75 from £7.50.
They also found Taste the Difference triple cooked chips and cauliflower cheese for 22p instead of £2.75.
Another shopper found Taste the Difference duck legs for £1.62, chicken parmigiana for £1.43 and Scottish Salmon for £1.62.
They had all been reduced by more than 50%.
Posting in the Reduce Your Supermarket Spend Facebook group, one shopper shared a huge haul containing almost 30 items for just £40 from Sainsbury’s Valentine’s deal.
Other shoppers were quick to comment, with one writing: “Wow! That’s brilliant!”
Another said: “Very impressive.”
A third wrote: “What a lovely stash!”
The Sun has asked Sainsbury’s if the offers are the same across all supermarkets or if they vary.
But it’s not just Valentine’s Day food that has been reduced at the supermarket, it has also reduced the price of its bouquets.
For example, a luxury Valentine’s bouquet has been slashed from £30 to £15, while a bunch of tulips are now £4 instead of £8.
It’s important to note that the offers aren’t guaranteed to be in every branch, and they are only available while stocks last.
There are lots more discounted menu items up for grabs depending on what’s available in your nearest store.
Sainsbury’s wasn’t the only supermarket offering customers a romantic spread.
The likes of Asda, Morrisons, Tesco and M&S all joined in with different meal deal choices.
How can I save on my supermarket shop?
You don’t need to buy surplus stock just to save money on your food bill.
Keep an eye out for loyalty schemes in stores – for example, Tesco has its Clubcard scheme which lets you buy selected products at a discounted rate.
You’ll see yellow tags under prices where there is a subsequent Clubcard price.
And each time you spend £1 in store and online, you get one point when you scan your card or app.
There’s also the Asda Rewards scheme which lets you collect Asda Pounds and use them to get money off your shop.
One shopper saved a whopping £40 just by using this scheme.
There are also grants available through the Household Support Fund, for instance, which ends this month.

Many offer food vouchers to cash-tight families, but it’s best to get in touch with your local council to see what’s on offer and if you’re eligible.
