I’m a nail tech & there are 10 trends I hate – & don’t get me started on the gross option that looks like Blu Tack
CHOOSING a colour or design can be one of the most stressful decisions you have to make at a nail salon.
After all, with everything from a French manicure to dainty designs on the menu, there’s almost too many options to choose from.
But if you’re looking for bubble or duck shaped nails, then you may just want to think again.
That’s because one nail tech has revealed the 10 trends that she can’t wait to see the back of.
In the clip posted to TikTok (@beautybyemc._), the beauty fan begins by discussing her dislike for duck nails, also known as flared nails, which is where the acrylic has a tip that’s much wider than the width of the natural nail.
The finished result bears an uncanny resemblance to the webbed foot of a duck, which is where it gets its name from.
“I hate this shape,” she says, followed by the nausea face emoji.
Next up, the nail tech notes that she also takes issue with bending nails.
“I just don’t get what would ever make you want your nails to curve,” she explains.
Then there’s ‘bubble nails’ – and while they’ve been a hit on Instagram, this nail whizz isn’t a fan.
This manicure style is achieved by creating a round of acrylic fixed at the middle on the nail which is then shaped into a bubble-esque dome.
“Just no! They look like they were made with Blu Tack,” she says.
The nail pro also goes on to show a snap of a woman with nails embellished with gems and Hello Kitty stickers and warns: “Too many charms – just look cluttered.”
Then there’s the clients who ask for “strange things” to be stuck onto the nails.
“I have no words,” she says.
The nail pro is also against impractical nails, and, showing an example of someone with combs attached to their nails, points out that she also dislikes those that are “designed to be tools.”
“Just use a brush not your nails,” she urges.
Showing another social media user who opted for a cutlery design on the end of their nails, she notes: “This is extreme.”
The nail whizz goes on to share a manicure which is shapen with a pointy end and says: This shape makes my brain hurt,” while she brands nails shaped like cat claws “gross.”
