One devoted crisp lover had noticed the change which left her deeply devastated.
She has tweeted, saying: “Don’t tell me your discontinuing marmite crisps, i don’t think i can handle it. they’re the only things keeping me going.”
Walkers has responded that they’ve had to let Marmite flavour go.
The company wrote: ” We know, we hate it too. With a heavy heart, we’ve had to let Marmite flavour go from our range.”
The hugely popular crisp flavour has been on shop selves for more than 20 years.
Although opinions on the flavour are divided, many fans joined in to share their love for the crisps before they are gone forever.
One fan said: “This flavour crisp takes me back to the 1960’s.”
Another said: “I always come back to these.”
A third shopper claimed: “You can easily become addicted to these.”
Someone else said: “Plenty of flavour – and they’re well cooked and crisp without being greasy.”
While another added: “Marmite is a god crisp flavour.”
One person wrote: “These have to be my all time favourites , and right now I can’t get them anywhere. They are so lush yum!”
Many shoppers have struggled to get their hands on the iconic flavour for years and it wasn’t long before fans started to speculate the crisps might soon be discontinued.
The popular snack company has previously told the Sun they were well aware the flavour was beloved by fans but hoped to pave the way for new flavours.
A Walkers spokesperson told The Sun: “We are very sorry to disappoint fans of Marmite flavour Walkers crisps with this news.”
“We know many crisp lovers will hate to see this Walkers’ flavour go.”
“This change will enable us to focus our efforts on making more of the flavours crisp fans love the most.”
There are several reasons why a flavour may be discontinued.
More often than not it is due to poor sales, but sometimes it can be to make way for new flavours.
It has been a tough ride for Walker’s fans as several other crips flavours have been discontinued in the past few months.
In October Walkers axed its hugely popular Worcester sauce flavour and fans claimed “their sandwiches were ruined.”
Fans also said goodbye to Max Fiercely Flamin Hot crisps in November as well as the Beef and Onion flavour.
We have put together a list of all of the popular crisp flavours that Walkers fans are desperate to see again.
But don’t be disheartened just yet – there may be an alternative to the iconic Marmite flavour.
Marmite is owned by Unilever and the brands does produce its own Marmite-flavored snacks range.
Marmite makers have hinted that Marmite crisps could be on the way soon just days after Walkers announced it would no longer produce its version.
