From pink Barbie burgers to all-cheese cheeseburgers, Burger King is known for delivering unique takes on the classic burger formula. Some of the results have been appetizing for customers, while others have sparked more disgust than joy.
For nearly 70 years, Burger King has been serving up Whoppers around the world. In some ways that makes it the de facto fast food burger, having beat McDonald's to the punch before the Golden Arches launched the Big Mac a decade after the Whopper debuted. Since then, though, the Whopper hasn't simply sat as a stale menu offering; it's been a launching point for the food engineers at the company to come up with new and exciting options.
The latest take on the Whopper is rolling out at stores nationwide, according to food blogger Markie Devo. He shared a preview of the new item, the Candied Bacon Whopper, on Instagram. The burger features a classic Whopper patty and seeded Whopper bun with sweet bacon jam, lettuce, tomato, crispy onions, garlic aioli, and candied bacon inside. Devo joked that the new offering is Burger King's response to McDonald's new, bigger burgers. "BK said McD's can release all the monster burgers they want, here’s a bacon-on-bacon burger," he said.
The Candied Bacon Whopper isn't the only new menu item available to customers. Select BK locations will begin offering a new Fiery Big Fish sandwich, which is essentially the chain's regular fish sandwich with a spicy sauce added.
With fast food chains unveiling new offerings left and right, it's hard to keep up with all the new choices available at the drive-thru.
