South Carolina GOP Sen. Tim Scott, who is speculated to be one of Donald Trump's considerations for a running mate, is being warned by allies of Trump to stop pushing opposition research on other potential running mates, such as fellow Republican Elise Stefanik, The Messenger reported.
Scott's team has reportedly been "shopping around" their research on Stefanik, according to sources speaking to The Messenger.
“It’s particularly frustrating because we are trying to close down a primary and we have people passing opposition research around about potential VP nominees,” a source allied with Trump told The Messenger. “We’re not even talking about (vice president.) It’s not that we’re not talking about one or the other — we’re not talking about any of them.”

“Everyone in Trump world knows that Tim Scott’s team is pitching oppo on Elise Stefanik,” another source said. “It’s a bad look and he should condemn it.”
Both Scott — who recently dropped out of the 2024 race for GOP presidential nominee — and Trump supporters Stefanik have hit the campaign trail with Trump over the last few weeks. The two are believed to be on the former president's shortlist to be his running mate.
A spokesperson for Scott denied that he's been pushing the research on Stefanik, saying the two have had "a long and successful working relationship."
"This is not only patently false, but insulting. The media will stop at nothing to pit Republicans against each other in an attempt to stop us from retaking the White House in 2024," the spokesperson said.
