Join Soul Trak and The Washington Area Bicyclist Association for a two part beginner to advanced bicycle skills training. This training is for Soul Trak staff and volunteers who are interested in sharing their love of biking with others and are eager to help expand Soul Trak’s bicycle programming. All participants who complete either 1 or both portions of the training will receive a certificate of completion from WABA and will be invited to attend further trainings to improve and refine their skills.
At this training participants will learn how to teach adults and children to ride a bike in 3 easy steps. Instructors will demonstrate how to teach basic skills such as gliding, balancing and pedaling, and will discuss tips and tricks for working with different types of learners. Bicycles, helmets, and course equipment will be provided for all participants.
At this training participants will learn the basics of on street riding and how to navigate different traffic situations. The first portion of the training will take place in a parking lot where participants will learn bike handling skills and hazard avoidance maneuvers that are necessary to know when riding in high traffic areas. Afterwards, the group will go on an on street ride to navigate different intersections, learn how to communicate with other motorists and put their new skills to the test. This training is the prerequisite for becoming a League Cycling Instructor.
