CHICAGO (WCMH) – A Columbus police officer will now be investigated internally after he pleaded guilty to recording a video of an underage girl in Illinois.
According to a spokesperson with the Circuit Court of Cook County, Adam Nguyen pleaded guilty to unauthorized videotaping stemming from an incident in May 2023, when Nguyen was accused of recording a video up the skirt of an underage girl.
On May 21, Nguyen, who was charged with unauthorized video recording and live video transmission, according to court documents, was arrested in Cook County, which encompasses the city of Chicago and surrounding communities. He was issued a $20,000 bond.
After pleading guilty on Jan. 9, Nguyen was sentenced to 24 months of probation, 100 hours of community service and ordered to undergo a sex-offender evaluation, among other conditions.
Columbus police confirmed Monday that Nguyen, who was hired in 2021, remains on the “relived of duty” status, pending an administrative investigation now that the criminal case has concluded.
