COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A home located between the Fairgrounds and Ohio State University has been shut down by the city of Columbus.
According to the City Attorney’s office, the city announced it has shut down the property at 338 Chittenden Avenue, in the Indianola Terrace section of the University District, declaring it a nuisance property, the first of 2024.
According to court documents, police received 39 calls for the Chittenden Ave. property, beginning in 2021. Officers responded to incidents of robbery, a stolen vehicle, a shooting and fighting at the home.
In 2023 alone, police have responded to reports of someone being shot in June, shots fired in July and September, a robbery in August, a person with a gun in December, which led to a large fight.
This month officers in the vicinity heard multiple gunshots and found three shell casings at the property. Police said they witnessed more than 100 people at a party at the scene. In many instances, a party was reportedly in progress.
CPD executed an order to immediately board up the property and a hearing on a preliminary injunction has been set for Feb. 5.
