ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Scientists from Albany Medical College (AMC) received a five-year, $3.9 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to research long COVID. According to the CDC, sufferers experience lingering COVID symptoms for weeks, months, or even years after the initial infection.
AMC scientists will analyze blood samples of long COVID patients and work to find the identifiers within the blood that point to long COVID. They are seeking a blood test that could identify those most vulnerable to COVID, lingering symptoms, and severe disease forms.
Beyond general symptoms like fatigue and fever, the CDC said that long COVID can include respiratory, neurological, and digestive symptoms. Anyone experiencing lingering symptoms of COVID can find tips from the CDC to talk about it with a healthcare provider.
