Report: Barcelona are keeping an eye on 21-year-old Tottenham star
Mundo Deportivo have reported that Barcelona are keeping an eye on Tottenham Hotspur’s Pape Matar Sarr, as well as Newcastle United’s Yankuba Minteh (via Sport Witness).
Barcelona have reportedly sent scouts to the African Cup of Nations this month to take a look at some of the best talents in the continent, including Pape Matar Sarr.
Sarr has been a revelation for Tottenham in his breakout season for the Lilywhites, starting the vast majority of games under Ange Postecoglou so far this season.
Barcelona are interested in signing Pape Matar Sarr
Spurs signed the 21-year-old from Metz three years ago, but loaned him back to France for a year to continue his development with regular football.
Although Sarr struggled to earn consistent minutes last season under Antonio Conte, he appears to be a key member of Postecoglou’s first-choice trio along with James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur.
Whatever the case with Barcelona’s interest in the youngster, it would surely be a tough task to get Tottenham to part ways with one of their brightest young talents.
Spurs Web Opinion:
With the way prices are going at the moment, Tottenham would not sell Sarr for anything under £100m. If the likes of Caicedo are going for that price, then logic dictates Sarr is worth that too. Either way, Tottenham need to keep him and build around him for the future.
